Neartool vs credit-based alt text tools
Many online alt text tools ask for an account and sell credits, and they send your images to a server. Neartool runs on your device instead. That suits some people and not others.

Where cloud tools win
- You are on a phone, a tablet or a browser other than Chrome.
- You can't spare the disk space for Chrome's model.
- You need a feature that depends on a larger cloud model.
Check it yourself
- Read the other tool's pricing and sign-up pages.
- Open your browser's DevTools, go to the Network tab, and add an image. See whether the file is sent anywhere.
- Run the same ten images through both tools and compare the drafts.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Neartool need no credits?
The AI model runs inside Chrome on your computer, so we don't pay per image. There are no credits or daily caps from us. Your computer's speed and disk space are the limit.
Is on-device alt text as good as cloud alt text?
It varies by image. Chrome's on-device model is smaller than many cloud models, so read and edit every draft. The best test is to try both on your own images.
Can I use Neartool on my phone?
Not yet. It needs desktop Chrome with its built-in AI available. If you need a phone-friendly tool, a cloud-based one is a better fit today.
Test it on your own images
