Amazon Product Description From an Image: CSV Sample

Neartool turns each product photo into a draft item name, description and keyword list in a CSV. The column names are a common layout, not an official template. Map them to the template for your category in Seller Central, and check each limit before you submit.

Sample file

Three sample rows from the Amazon export. SKU is blank because only you know it.

Steps

  1. Add your product photos to the product description from image tool.
  2. Read every draft and correct anything the photo does not show clearly.
  3. Choose the Amazon listings CSV export and open it in a spreadsheet.
  4. Open the template for your product category in Seller Central and map each column to its field.
  5. Fill in the SKU, brand, price and required attributes yourself, then check the limits before you upload.

Start with the Product description from image, then check the text with the alt text checker.

What the file contains

The export has five columns: item_sku, item_name, product_description, generic_keywords and main_image_file. The item name is cut from the alt text or the first sentence of the description, up to 200 characters, at a word boundary. Keywords are built from the model's hashtags, lower-cased, and cut so the total does not pass 250 bytes.

The SKU is blank because the tool cannot know it. The image column holds the original file name, which tells you which photo each row came from.

Treat every row as a first draft. Read the description against the real product, remove claims you cannot support, and check the text against the rules of the category before you paste it into a listing. Column names in Amazon's own templates differ by category, so map the columns by hand instead of assuming they line up.

Why this is not an official template

Amazon's listing templates differ by category, change over time and are available only inside Seller Central, which requires a login. We could not check the current column names from public pages, so we do not claim that this file uploads as it is. The names above are a common layout and a starting point.

Use the file to organise the text. Then copy each field into the template Amazon gives you, or into the listing form, and follow the validation messages Amazon shows.

Limits to confirm

The 250-byte limit for generic keywords is widely cited and the export applies it, but confirm the current rule for your category. Bytes are not characters: an accented letter or a non-Latin character can use two or more bytes, so a keyword list in another language fills the limit sooner. Item name length also varies by category, so the 200 characters we use is a safe cap, not a promise that it is accepted.

What the photo cannot tell you

A description from a photo cannot know dimensions, materials, certifications, compatibility or what is in the box. Add those yourself, and do not publish claims you cannot support. Amazon holds sellers to its content policies, so accuracy matters more than volume.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload this CSV straight to Amazon?

Not as it comes. The columns are a common layout, not the official template for your category. Map them to the template in Seller Central.

What is the generic keywords limit?

It is widely cited as 250 bytes, and the export stays under that. Check the current rule for your category, and remember bytes are not the same as characters.

Why are bytes different from characters?

Plain English letters take one byte each, but accented letters and many other scripts take two or more. A list in another language therefore reaches the limit with fewer characters.

Does the tool know my product details?

No. It only sees the photo. Add dimensions, materials, compatibility and what is in the box yourself.

Are my product photos uploaded?

No. The model runs in your own Chrome browser and the file is made on your device.
