Etsy Listing Description From a Photo: Bulk CSV Worksheet

Neartool drafts an Etsy title, description and tags from each photo and puts them in a CSV. Etsy has no bulk upload for new listings, so use the file as a worksheet: check the limits, edit the text, then paste it into each listing or into a third-party uploader.

Sample file

Three sample rows from the Etsy export. Price and quantity are left for you.

Steps

  1. Add your product photos to the product description from image tool and describe your shop's tone in the context field.
  2. Read every draft. The model sees the photo only, so add materials, sizes and care details yourself.
  3. Choose the Etsy listings CSV export and open it in a spreadsheet.
  4. Check each title is within 140 characters and each tag within 20 characters, with no more than 13 tags.
  5. Copy the text into your listings one by one, or into a third-party bulk tool that you trust.

Start with the Product description from image, then check the text with the alt text checker.

What the file contains

The Etsy export has seven columns: TITLE, DESCRIPTION, PRICE, CURRENCY_CODE, QUANTITY, TAGS and IMAGE1. The title is cut from the alt text or the first sentence of the description, at a word boundary. Tags come from the model's hashtags, lower-cased and without the hash sign. Price is left blank, and quantity and currency are filled with defaults that you should change.

IMAGE1 holds the original file name, not a web address. It tells you which photo the row came from.

Etsy limits to check

Etsy's help pages say a listing title can be up to 140 characters, and that a listing can have up to 13 tags of up to 20 characters each. The export enforces those numbers by cutting long titles and dropping tags that are too long or beyond the thirteenth. Etsy also suggests keeping the text alternative for each listing image to 250 characters or fewer.

Etsy does not publish a firm limit for the description in the pages we checked, so write what a buyer needs and leave out filler.

There is no native bulk upload

Etsy's help centre says it has no way to bulk upload new listings, though you can copy one listing to save time and edit many existing listings at once in Shop Manager. So this CSV is a worksheet. Some third-party tools accept spreadsheets, and their formats differ from ours, so read their documentation and map the columns yourself.

The time saving comes from drafting. Instead of writing forty descriptions from scratch, you review and improve forty drafts.

Keep it truthful

A small on-device model can misjudge a material, a colour or a size. Never publish a claim you have not checked, such as solid silver, hand made, or organic. Buyers rely on the description, and you are responsible for it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload this CSV to Etsy?

No. Etsy says it has no way to bulk upload new listings. Use the file as a worksheet and paste the text into listings, or use a third-party tool that accepts spreadsheets.

What are the Etsy title and tag limits?

Etsy allows titles up to 140 characters and up to 13 tags per listing, with each tag up to 20 characters. The export trims to those numbers.

Does Neartool write the price?

No. Price is left blank because the photo cannot tell it. Quantity and currency are placeholders you should change.

Is the description ready to publish?

Treat it as a draft. The model only sees the photo, so add real materials, sizes, shipping and care details and fix anything it got wrong.

Do my listing photos leave my computer?

No. The model runs in your own Chrome browser, and the CSV is made on your device.
